February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month

Dating abuse isn't something anyone wants to talk about, but as long as we're ignoring it, the problem will never go away. Instead, join Stay Teen as we participate in National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, a national effort to raise awareness about dating violence and abuse during the month of February.

Keeping Summer Fun

How to Protect Yourself and Your Relationship

One of the best parts of summer recess is the sudden absence of adult supervision. It’s less likely someone older is around ensuring that your bedroom door stays open or scolding you to “get to class.” There are places to sneak away to that the colder months don’t allow and no such thing as a school night that forces you to end your evenings early. These new circumstances won’t change things for everyone, but the extra freedom and opportunity might lead to extra fooling around.

East Los High is Back!

East Los High is back! Season 2 premieres TODAY on Hulu and we are so excited. To celebrate, we gave sneak peek copies of the first episode to two members of our Youth Leadership Team and asked them to tell us what they thought.

What We Are Watching: One Less Problem

Ariana Grande just came out with a new song just in time for summer. It’s called Problem and it’s my new jam. Though she’s only come out with a lyric video, it’s pretty awesome to watch.

Have you ever had a DTR (define the relationship) talk?

He loves me, he loves me not. If only understanding relationships was as easy as picking the petals off a flower, we'd all be a lot less stressed…and a lot of bloggers, writers, and pay-by-the-minute advice phone lines would be out of business. So how do you know what's going on in your relationship? Are you just friends?  Are you something more? Sometimes you just know. But sometimes, you actually have to ask and have the dreaded DTR talk.

We've all been there. But ultimately, each DTR (while awkward and stressful for you AND, presumably, the other person) should end up clarifying the relationship. Either you realize things are going nowhere and save yourself the extra months of working on a failing relationship, or you learn that there’s potential in something you thought couldn't possibly work. Yes—DTRs can suck. But they can also be really enlightening.

In the comments, tell us about your best or your worst DTR.

Switched at Birth: How to Talk about Waiting

This week, on one of our favorite ABC Family shows, Switched At Birth, Bay and Tank almost take their relationship to the next level.  Things are getting hot and heavy for them but Bay wants to put the brakes on the situation. It’s not that she doesn’t like Tank or even that it’s her first time; Bay already had sex with her old boyfriend Ty.  But for some reason, she’s just not ready and doesn’t want to have sex with Tank until she’s sure of what it means to her.

The Age Old Lies

I can still distinctly remember my five-year-old self drawing pictures in crayon of my dream man. He was tall with blond hair and a goofy smile. Granted, his smile could have been goofy due to my amateur drawing skills, but the dream for a future with the perfect man was there.

Help! My Partner is Driving Me Up a Wall!

Being in a relationship with someone means they have the power to drive you absolutely freaking CRAY CRAY.  The deep emotions that come along with being romantically involved means not only rainbows and butterflies, but experiencing anger and annoyance on whole new levels.   Getting upset with your partner cannot be avoided, but letting your annoyance ruin the relationship can be.  Here’s how to deal when the person you love is making you nuts.

Can I Get Pregnant If…

As a general rule of thumb, if a pregnancy question begins with the fact that there was a penis inside of a vagina, the answer is probably, “yes, you could be pregnant.” (Don’t totally freak here, “could be pregnant” is different than “are pregnant.”) The reality is, men and women’s bodies are designed to reproduce. So in order to get them not to, you have to either abstain from sex or rely on the miracles of modern science (ie: birth control). You can’t rely on yoga poses, Coca-Cola douches, or elaborate voodoo ceremonies. The following are 10 scenarios that are NOT reliable ways to protect against an unplanned pregnancy.
