East Los High: Meet the New Busboy

As the story line of East Los High continues, we become more involved in each character and how all of the events going on are impacting their lives.  Everyone is experiencing change, something that is completely normal during your teen years.  This is the time when you go from being a child to becoming an adult.  Even though it’s a gradual change, every little event helps you along this path.  For the teens at East Los Angeles High School, we definitely see some change and adjustment occurring in Episode 4.

We see Maya begin to turn her life around.  Although she has made poor decisions in the past, she is beginning to change and get on the path to success.  We see her in school on a daily basis which is a great start (even though she does get physical with Vanessa and Ceci in the bathroom).  In addition, Maya changes her “stealing ways” by giving Jacob’s father the money she stole from his restaurant after she enjoyed a meal without paying.  And instead of Jacob’s father reporting her to the police, he offers her a job as a dishwasher and busboy at his restaurant.  These are all great changes for Maya and we really start to see her succeed.

Who else loves the relationship between Jessie and Jacob because I sure do! I love how he shows he really cares and respects all of her wishes.  However, how do you guys think she is adjusting to this new relationship? Along with trying to fit Jacob into her life, she is balancing Bomb Squad, looking after Maya, and her friendship with Soli.  These are all major adjustments and changes, but I think Jessie will figure it all out! When a mandatory Bomb Squad initiation and party fall on the night that she and Soli made plans for the movies, Jessie balances all of her plans by inviting Soli to the party. This is a great way to balance her Bomb Squad responsibilities and her friendships.

Jacob is working hard with football, his studies, and helping his father out at the restaurant.  However, his father wants him to cut back on his time at the restaurant to focus more on his studies.  Jacob wants to continue helping his father out but also wants to get good grades.  In addition, we see Sparky’s mom cope with the change of no longer having her son in her life.

Change, adjustment, and balancing numerous commitments can be difficult, but all of the teens seem to be doing a great job so far. The episode concludes with a mystery guy, who’s been on the hunt for Maya, finding Sparky’s phone.  This could be very bad considering Maya’s contact information is stored in it. What changes do you think will happen next?
