East Los High: I Think She’s Dead
Uh, what just happened? That is my reaction to this episode. So I’m just going to get right to the details.
The episode starts with Jacob confronting Maya at the club after he sees her dancing. He tries to get her to come back to East LA, but Maya wants nothing to do with that. They then share some very, very harsh words. After Jacob storms off when Maya gives him back the charm bracelet, she breaks down in the dressing room. We see her taking quite a few tequila shots as the voices of different people come back to her. It seems like this is Maya’s breaking point.
Jacob is furious with Maya and erases her name on the menu at the restaurant. Meanwhile, Jessie is worrying about Maya. She feels bad that Maya had to resort to stripping and she wonders where she is staying. But as Jessie is worrying, Maya is continuing to go downhill. With even more shots in her system, she attempts to make her way to the stage. Didi tries to stop her from performing, but that doesn’t work. Maya passes out right after she starts dancing and they all think she is dead. They rush her to the hospital to try to save her life.
When Maya wakes up in the hospital, we see Paulina at her side. She explains to Maya that she overdosed on alcohol, sleeping pills, and cocaine; definitely not a good combination. And while Maya thinks she is just a drugged out, stripper, screw up like her mother, Paulina sees potential in her and wants to put her in a rehab facility. Once Maya is in stable condition, Paulina goes to the restaurant to find Jessie, but instead comes across Jacob and tells him about Maya.
We see him at her bedside crying. He apologizes for what happened the other night outside the club and how things worked out. Jacob says he was the one who messed up so badly and wishes he could take it all back. He goes back to the first time they met and how he thought they would have a great life together. Unfortunately, Jacob says he has to forget that now and be there for Jessie. He does tell Maya one final time that he loves her but won’t ever be able to say it again. And right before Jacob leaves, he kisses her hand and then her cheek. Maya then opens her eyes and starts to cry.
Jessie continues to talk to the doctor about her options and what care she can receive under different programs she qualifies for. Remember, you have options when you become pregnant at a young age, but to prevent getting pregnant in the first place, ALWAYS USE PROTECTION!! As Jessie is working at the restaurant, she goes and makes a delivery to the local church. While there, she meets Father Rodolfo. She invites him over to their home to visit Lupe. He enters their home and Lupe freaks out about him being there. She is yelling at him, but yet we don’t know why. I’m sure we will find out soon!
