Reina and Maya both get arrested. Just as they are being taken away in a cop car, Jacob arrives. He asks the police if the victim is a girl. Jacob learns that it’s a male who was shot. In the jail’s holding cell, Reina demands that Maya leaves, but Maya doesn’t feel right doing so. She finally walks downstairs. Jacob is at the jail looking for Maya, but doesn’t see her walk out and leave. Maya then goes to the train station to leave for San Francisco. As she is getting ready to leave, Jacob talks to Reina. He tells her there wasn’t a wedding but Reina says he is too late. She does tell him where Maya is and Jacob quickly speeds off in his car to go find Maya at the train station. However, he gets there just as the train is leaving. Jacob is a second too late. He sits down on a bench at the train station, upset that he just missed Maya’s departure. But Maya didn’t leave! She couldn’t get on the train, it didn’t feel right. Jacob tells Maya all about what happens and how the wedding is called off. After he admits he must be with her, they kiss. Aww!
Maya then goes to Jessie’s house. She apologizes about everything and Jessie does the same. As Jessie finishes packing up her house, she invites Maya to live with her and Paulina in a new place. Maya tells her that she and Reina got an apartment together. Jessie also tells Maya she made a decision about her pregnancy, and Maya is there for Jessie for the abortion. Maya is back at the restaurant now with Jacob. The two begin kissing, but , he reaches for a condom. Good job Jacob! Reina is finally released from jail but immediately goes back to her drinking habits.
It’s now graduation time for some of the kids of East Los High. Paulie, Maya, Vanessa, and Jacob all graduate on time, as planned. Paulina is the speaker at their ceremony. She shares with the graduating class that they can’t control what life gives them, but they can choose how to deal with the situations. Maya decides she is officially going to culinary school. And like Jacob and Maya, Soli and Paulie decide to take their relationship to the next level, but not before they both reach for condoms.
It is now one year later and we are now able to see what the teens are up too. Vanessa says her life consists of taking her medications, hanging out with her support group, going to dance and therapy. Cristian did get to go on tour with Vanessa’s dad, but was kicked off the tour after sleeping with her father’s 18 year old girlfriend. Ceci shares she likes being a nanny but doesn’t like having to drop off her own child at day care in order to care for other children, but she is doing what is best. She says she is with a new guy, Pedro, who is very supportive of both her and her baby. And yes, she and Pedro practice safe sex. Soli and Paulie are still together. She still has her internship and is planning on majoring in journalism that fall while Paulie is studying to be a physical therapist. Jessie quit Bomb Squad and is completing an internship at the hospital. She says she wants to be a nurse, or a doctor, or a science teacher. Maya and Jacob are still together as well. Jacob is studying business in college and Maya is in culinary school. Maya also reveals that Reina has been sober for a year and is doing very well. We finally see Jessie going to the train station with Maya and Jacob to head to college in San Francisco. Maya gives Jessie the necklace that Sparky gave her previously. She said it kept her safe when she was alone. Both Jacob and Maya know that she will be successful away at school.
Jessie leaves with giving very important advice for other girls:
1. “Don’t cheat on your boyfriend. “
2. “Don’t lie to your family. Or to yourself.”
3. “Make sure you get to know a guy really, really, really, really well before you have sex with him. Oh! And make sure he always has a condom. “
Great advice Jessie! I hope you all saw how difficult life could be if you don’t protect yourself. For more resources about teen pregnancy, visit Stayteen.org and Eastloshigh.com.
