16 and Pregnant Season 4: Hope

You are at risk of getting pregnant every time you have sex. It doesn’t make a difference if it is your first time or your 50th time and that’s what Hope found out when she got pregnant after having sex just four or five times. When Hope first started describing her relationship (or lack thereof) with the father of her baby (Ben), I was positive he wasn’t going to stick around. She met Ben about a year ago and without knowing him very well, decided to have sex with him. Hope jumped from never having sex or even a boyfriend to having sex with someone she barely knew. Were you surprised to learn that she was so willing to have sex with Ben?

When Hope found out she was pregnant, she obviously had to tell Ben. I wasn’t that surprised to hear that Ben told her he didn’t want anything to do with the baby and didn’t speak to her for two months. I mean, he definitely didn’t think a meaningless hook up would lead to fatherhood…but…anytime you have sex, you can get pregnant, right? After two months of hiding, Ben comes around and tells Hope he wants to help her out. Hope’s mom is really skeptical of Ben and doesn’t trust him, but do you blame her? He makes it clear that he likes to party and has already ditched Hope once. Ben hasn’t even met Hope’s parents yet and they already don’t like or trust him. Hope’s mom can’t help support the baby because she already has her own financial problems so it’s up to Hope and Ben to take care of the baby.

Hope tries to work throughout the pregnancy to save up money, but that turns out to be impossible because she is too uncomfortable. Hope is having a difficult pregnancy because she is gaining more weight than she should and she is having a lot of swelling. Through all of this Hope decides to move in with Ben in his apartment. He works as a bartender and tells Hope he will take care of her financially. He is also starting to show feelings towards Hope but I really didn’t think this caring side of Ben would last. As soon as the baby was born, I thought he was going to leave again… turns out I might have been wrong.

Once baby Tristan is born,  Ben really steps it up. He is helping Hope out a lot and is also treating her really well. It’s really hard for Hope to stay at home because Ben has long hours and she is lonely and bored. All of her friends and family are far away so Hope decides she wants to get a job so she can make new friends and be distracted during the day. When she tells Ben her plans, he is really supportive of her. He is even willing to watch Tristen on his own during the day so she can go to work. Do you think getting a job is a good idea for Hope?

Unfortunately, getting a job doesn’t solve everything. She doesn’t make friends as quickly as she wants and is really missing her old friends. Hope once had plans of going to Arizona for college, but after getting pregnant, those plans were shattered. She can’t have the party life she used to have in high school because she now has to worry about keeping a job and taking care of another human being. Do you think Hope will ever stop missing the party life? Will Ben continue to be a good dad and supportive boyfriend? I would love to hear your opinion so be sure to leave your comments!
