What We Are Watching: One Less Problem

Ariana Grande just came out with a new song just in time for summer. It’s called Problem and it’s my new jam. Though she’s only come out with a lyric video, it’s pretty awesome to watch.

Ariana put this song out at the perfect time; summer is when a lot of people re-evaluate their relationships. Am I with this person because they were simply there and I wanted someone to snuggle with? Or am I with them because this is someone in whom I’m truly invested? Either way, this is my new single-girl and healthy relationship jam of the summer.

Ariana knows just how to put it, she doesn’t say, “hey being one way or another is better.” She tells you her story and that even though she loves this person, she doesn’t see a healthy future between them. She’s thought about it and she wanted to make it work, but it’s not the right time or person for her.

Just in time for summer, Ariana realizes that she’s going to be better off having a great break from school and work while being single.

Then comes her BFF Iggy. She’s an awesome female rapper who lays it out for us. She knows that loving someone can be fun, and breakups are pretty much the opposite of fun, but she’s got bigger and better things waiting for her. She’s realized that this person isn’t the person she’ll be spending forever with. It’s not a big deal; she doesn’t have to worry about being with the wrong person and she’s able to focus on becoming the best person she can be.

Both these independent women realize that though they may love, or have loved this one person, they can’t commit right now. The same should go for everyone else; do you really think you could commit yourself to someone forever when you don’t really feel a good connection with them? I don’t think I could, which is why being sure you’re with right person is so important.

Having a healthy relationship is wonderful, but when you have a bad relationship, everything seems a little worse. You’re stressed, you may feel pressure to try and make it work, but sometimes it’s easier to let it go.

What We’re Watching is a new feature where we break down what we’re watching each week. We’ve scoured television listings, YouTube, Twitter, and reached into the depths of the Internet to bring you awesome stuff to watch and learn from. Watching something we’re not? Let us know and we’ll take a look!George Watsky is a slam poet- turned- rapper who did the slam poetry circuit for a few years before going musical. You may recognize him from his video Pale Kid Raps Fast. He’s won tons of awards for his poetry and I personally give him some props for being the dorky white guy talking about some pretty important issues.

Syd is a junior at American University studying Public Communications and Psychology. She is from a little bit of everywhere but is enjoying her adoptive city of D.C. She spends time cruising the Internet for cat videos, sex talks, and graphic design guides. Have questions for Syd? Send her an email!Send us an email!

Back in 2006 he performed this poem V for Virgin which was propelled to popularity by Russell Simmons—a pretty cool guy in the music industry. Simmons started Def Jam records which produces music by Frank Ocean, 2 Chainz, Rihanna, Kanye West, and tons others, so he knows what good sound is.

This poem is pretty sexy for talking about not having sex. But in truth, not having sex is sexy! You get to enjoy life and experience so many more things without having to worry about STIs or babies.

Watsky points out all the best things about being a normal kid, which is as sexy as sexy gets. Because you know what? Those  kids who go to school, learn about cool TV, music, countries, and politics are the ones who are the sexiest. The kids who learn a unique sport, card game, dance, or language are the sexiest. Doing your best in high school, while you have time to try all the weird and wacky things that come with the unique privilege of being in high school…that, my friends, is sexy.

I think George Watsky got it right. Because no matter how many crushes you get and get over, hairstyles you run through, or friends you may have, the most important person in your life is yourself. So treat yourself right, and enjoy being your crazy weird self for as long as you can.
