Healthy Relationships 101, Part 1

We're talking a lot this month about what makes up a bad or abusive relationship…but as important as it is to recognize a negative relationship, it's also really important to understand what makes up a healthy relationship. We asked members of our teen advisory group to help us define what things make up a healthy relationship and they took it a step further: they made awesome collages featuring images and words that make them think of love, trust, communication, and anything else that's key in a good relationship. Check out their pieces here and tell us what YOU think makes up a healthy relationship!

Claudia, 18

"To me, a healthy relationship is when you can live your own life and a life WITH your partner. A smile to know you're happy."

A healthy relationship is when you feel in your heart and mind you should be with someone without any doubts or concerns. Its healthy to argue. Its unhealuthy to physically fight. Your boyfriend or girlfriend is always going to have a different opinion about something and thats okay. Its healthy to talk about problems. My boyfriend is great and we have been together for 2 years and we still argue but we work through our thoughts and feelings.

Here is great way to avoid getting involved in bad or abusive relationships:
1.KNOW someone before you TRUST them
2.Make sure that person is TRUST WORTHY before you COMMIT to be bf / gf
3.Dont get involved physically (sexually) until you know who this person really is.
Otherwise you are becoming emotionally attached to someone you soon find out is a player, a cheater, etc

People always say “Follow your heart” I am saying “Use your head “
