What Would You Miss Out On If…

…You Were a Teen Parent?

The month of May means a lot of things…Prom season is upon us, school is almost out…AND it's Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Obviously, we're pretty excited about that last one and so are the members of our Youth Leadership Team. We asked them what kinds of things they'd miss out on and if their lives would change if they became teens parents. Check out their collages to see what they thoughts.

Roberto, 17

"The things I chose were things and activities that I enjoy and that represent me. They each represent how I express myself creatively, safely, and responsibly. The images depict how each one has made me who I am and—if you knew me—you'd see that I'm all of these things. Each has taken a toll on how I push myself to go to new heights. It shows my simple side and it doesn't take much to be grateful that I'm not a parent at my age."

Allison, 18

"There is so much you want to do before you have kids. Your teenage years and your twenties are your time to do those things. So wait, use protection, and enjoy your youth…"

WHAT OTHER TEENS ARE SAYING:

ON JULY 11, 2014 AT 11:33 PM, ANONYMOUS SAID:

Sometimes having a baby at a young age isn’t “missing out” on anything. Yes there was a consequence for not being careful but you won’t miss out on anything as opposed to it being postponed for a while longer.

ON MAY 23, 2014 AT 12:32 PM, BROOKLIN SAID:

My sister, mom, and her mom all got pregnant at a young age and it destroyed their childhood and their future. Instead of being able to go out with friends and have fun and be a kid, they had to stay home with their children and watch them. My parents think the same is going to happen to me. I’ve told them repeatedly that I am not currently sexually active and wasn’t planning on being for a while. I don’t want what happened to my family to happen to me. So even when I am sexually active, I’m going to use protection and to my parents about getting me on birth control.
