What We’re Watching: We Love Laci Green!

Here at Stay Teen, we love talking about sex. You think we’re joking? It’s something that everyone has questions about and will probably do at some point in their life, but the questions of when, why, how, and who with always pop up at some point. So it was perfect when we were trolling YouTube and found Laci Green’s videos, more specifically her video Right age to have sex??

Laci Green is a peer sex educator who makes YouTube videos. What’s a peer sex educator, you ask? She’s someone our age who spends a lot of time learning and talking about sex. She’s got a lot of answers you’ll need to figure out this crazy, twisted world of sex. She’s been making these videos for about four years, and has gotten a lot of questions, so check out her great answers!

In Laci’s video, she talks about what I think is the most important question to ask about sex probably ever: when should I start having sex and who do I do it with?! Laci gives the best answer I’ve ever heard, it’s smart and easy. The only problem is that her answer isn’t a one stop shop.  I’ll break it down for you bit by bit.

You ask, who do I even do it with? She answers:  If you’re of legal consenting age in your state and you’ve just met this one guy who has an awesome car and a beard, maybe you should spend some more time with him first and figure out if he’s really the guy to share this intimate moment with. If it’s your partner who you’ve been dating for a year, you’re in love and know you can depend on them, that’s a great start!

Honestly, some people wait till marriage even if they’ve met the love of their life because they want their first time together to be special. They show their love in other ways other than having sex and are able to have a worry free relationship from pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)!

You ask, what else is there to it? She answers: consent and safety! Before having sex, make sure both you and your partner are ready and prepared for having sex. Consent means two legal adults making the conscious, unclouded by any alcohol or drugs, decision to have sex together. If you haven’t had sex yet, but your partner has—get tested. If the test comes back clean, awesome! If not then maybe you should wait a bit longer to find a solution to keep both you and your partner safe.

Finally, use protection. Condoms—male and female—will protect you against STIs and pregnancy; there’s also the pill, the sponge, and the really effective, long-acting methods like the implant and the IUD. Want to know more about the methods and figure out one that’s right for you? Check out our Birth Control Explorer!

Hats off to you, Laci Green, for a spectacular answer to hard questions! Check out the video here
